Old Master marine painting looted by the Nazis by Simon de Vlieger that has been returned to Poland.
The scene of ships on a rough sea by Simon de Vlieger (c.1600- 53) was identified as a painting on the Polish Ministry of Culture’s database of war losses after it emerged for sale at a German auction house last year.
Negotiations to recover the work began after the Art Loss Register sent a request for information to the Polish Ministry of Culture and a settlement was reached with the owner.
