Danish Art Deco furniture from 1941 designed by architect Orla Høyer will be offered, and the auction house says the furniture “is so rare that even Bruun Rasmussen’s experts have never seen anything like it before”.
Peter Kjelgaard, head of the modern decorative art and design department at the saleroom, says the Art Deco style in Denmark was primarily used in decorative art, silver and ceramics rather than furniture. The Høyer furniture is “extremely exclusive in its design, and they were all made to order”.
The Høyer-designed furniture up for auction consists of a daybed, a pair of sideboards, a chest of drawers and a display cabinet.
Pictured here is the unique daybed of birch with thick leather straps, brass fittings and mattress upholstered with light fabric, natural leather edgings. It was made to order in 1941 by Herluf Sørensen, and carries an estimate of DKK75,000-100,000.
