Despite an enduring interest in abstraction, he also showed keen interest in figurative art, inspired by Spanish and Renaissance works and even nudes found in glamour magazines.

This ink and graphite sketch of a female figure reflects his interest in the gentle curves and sensuality of the feminine form, which later translated into more commercial and kitsch works.

The subject is unknown, but on the death of the artist, it passed into the collection of Germaine Picabia, the widow of the artist.

Measuring 1ft x 11in (30.5 x 27cm) and signed by the artist lower right, it is estimated at €7000 when it is offered by Duran Subastas in Madrid on May 25.
