Paul Storr 1836 inkstand - £8500 at Chiswick Auctions.
Offered at Chiswick Auctions (22% buyer’s premium inc VAT) on April 4, the 10½in (27cm) tall, 27oz stand, above, stamped Storr & Mortimer, depicted Triton with two merman tails for each leg.
The design, owing a lot to Bernini’s Fontana del Tritone of 1642-43, was adapted by Storr more than once. At the west London rooms the inkstand was estimated at £2000-3000 and sold at £8500.
