Cowdry, known to collectors as an ebullient and pioneering London dealer, auctioneer and a familiar face on the posters fairs circuit, died last year aged 52. As well as a dealer, he was an enthusiastic collector of movie memorabilia, particularly of film posters which comprised 300 of the 534 unreserved lots. The sale totalled £121,460 overall.
James Bond was, as so often, the top attraction. Best of the 007 posters was the British Quad poster by Renato Fratini for United Artists 1963 release From Russia With Love (pictured).
The framed 2ft 6in x 3ft 4inin (76cm x 1.01m) poster estimated at £3000-5000 was among the 70% of lots to sell online, going under the hammer at £6000.
