
Catalogued as possibly early 19th century, the body of this cage shown on the left was scratch-carved either side with a goat and had a pierced ivory stopper carved with lotus, peony and chrysanthemum blooms. Estimated at £600-900, it sold at £3400.
The example on the right of the picture is a 19th century topped vegetable gourd cage. It has a tortoiseshell stopper pierced and is carved with a dragon and a body relief-moulded with a crane and pine tree, with an inscription between them ending in two seals. Also estimated at £600-900, it sold at £2600.
