Made by the Guild of Handicraft in London or Chipping Campden about 1905, its wirework design features four ceramic ‘butterfly wings’ set with green and blue enamel and a central oval opal cabochon. One ceramic panel was chipped, and the brooch fittings later, but it improved on hopes of £200-300 to bring £1600.
This particular pendant was made in a number of variations using both different coloured enamel and a variety of central stones. Others set with rings of additional stones and three cabochon drops suspended on chains have brought more substantial sums.
