As basic kitchenware, such dishes were produced in large quantities but few have survived in such good condition as this 15¼in (39cm) long example.

The surface of the glaze was good, there were no cracks or restoration and only very minor old chips to the rim.

Estimated at £1000-1300 at the auction on August 31, it sold online to a London bidder at £4200.
