A selection of jewellery and objects collected by Indian politician and diplomat Ratan Kumar Nehru and his wife Rajan will be offered at Nottingham saleroom Mellors & Kirk on September 20-21.

The 20 lots have come to auction following the death last year of their son Dr Ajay Nehru, who was a scientist at Imperial College and subsequently the University of Nottingham.

Some of the items were acquired when Ratan served as India’s ambassador in China, but this Egyptian silver twin branch candelabrum and pair of candlesticks entered his collection during his spell as ambassador to the short-lived United Arab Republic from 1958-60.

Dating from the mid 20th century, they measure 8in (20cm) high.

Estimate £200-300.
