Pictured above is an 18ct gold diamond and gem-set ‘parrot’ brooch designed as a textured cockatiel on a branch, with paveset diamond head, ruby eye and pave-set amethyst breast.

It has hallmarks for London, 1959, the year after Joseph Kutchinsky moved the family firm to the Brompton Road in Knightsbridge.

At Fellows (23% buyer’s premium) in Birmingham on March 15, it sold at £2700.

An equally eye-catching piece of gold and coloured gemstone Kutchinsky jewellery was offered at John Nicholson’s (24% buyer’s premium) February sale.

The diamond and ruby thistle brooch pictured above, estimated at £500-800, took £2000.
