Eighteenth century box catalogued as possibly Goa – £6000 at Chiswick Auctions.
Offered at Chiswick Auctions (25% buyer’s premium) on July 11, the 6.5 x 11in (17 x 28cm) box – catalogued as possibly Goa – was decorated to the interior of the lid with a lacquered lithographed panel of a mother and children in a countryside scene.
With six internal drawers and metal carrying handles, it triggered the now-familiar surge of Portuguese interest before selling to a collector on thesaleroom.com at a 10-times-estimate £6000.
