1. Modern British landscapist Walter Robin Jennings (1927-2005) worked closely in the style of 19th and early 20th century painters. This undated 2ft x 2ft 4in (61 x 71cm) oil of a salmon angler on the River Nevis in Scotland tipped over top estimate at Fieldings Auctioneers of Stourbridge on July 28.
2. This 2ft 3in x 19in (69 x 48cm) oil on canvas from 1970 depicting three figures standing in front of the Parthenon took a bottom-estimate £200 at John Nicholson’s of Surrey on July 25. Painted in 1970, Tre Figure was one of four works in the sale by the little-known Greek painter Giorgio Polykratis (b.1931).
3. This small 5 x 12in (13 x 30cm) watercolour of the River Dart in Devon by prolific British marine painter Thomas Bush Hardy (1842-97) nearly doubled its top guide on July 26 at Burstow & Hewett in East Sussex.
