This was a constant source of irritation to people looking for it and myself having to explain.

There is a conservation area called North Laine, which is mainly early Victorian houses, and in this context Laine is an ancient word for field.

We also had an East Laine, West Laine and a South Laine, the last of which disappeared into the sea.

There are no ‘lanes’ in North Laine or many, if any, antiques shops, although there are market places with small stallholders.

I had a shop for 30 years just outside North Laine and for most of this time bore the brunt of disgruntled visitors so, for the benefit of future visitors, would you please place this on record.
