More than 250 lots of perfume bottles and collectables from a single-owner collection will be offered for sale at John Nicholson’s on January 25 in Haslemere, Surrey.
Assembled from 1958-2000 by collector Joyce Paretti, the bottles range from £20-1000.
This 3in (8.5cm) high Meissen porcelain perfume bottle pictured above, modelled as a huntress carrying a gun with a dog at her side, with a removable head as a stopper, dates to c.1780 and is estimated at £500-750.
A photograph taken by Herbert Ponting (1870-1935), the official photographer on Captain Scott’s ill-fated expedition to the North Pole in 1910, is included in Forum Auctions’ sale in London on January 25.
One of the Dogs is a 13 x 18in (33 x 45cm) blind-stamped gelatin silver print dating to c.1924 which comes in a contemporary oak frame.
Formerly with The Fine Art Society in London (where several exhibitions of Ponting’s Antarctica photographs have been held since 1913), it is estimated at £800-1200.

Toy specialist Vectis is gearing up to sell a vast collection of toys assembled by the late John Gurney.
Split across several sales, the first auction will take place on January 24-25 and comprises some 1200 lots, including toys by Dinky, Corgi, Matchbox, Franklin Mint, Danbury Mint, Gems & Cobwebs, Milestone, Brooklin and Minimarque. All of the lots on offer are boxed.
Among the Dinky toys is this well-preserved no 514 Guy (1st Type) Weetabix van, which is guided at £500-700.
A collection of art books from the library of Arthur Liberty (1843-1917), founder of London’s Liberty & Co department store in Regent Street, is going under the hammer at Charterhouse Auctions on January 19.
Consigned by a family relation, the collection features a run of The Studio, an illustrated magazine founded in 1893 by Charles Holme, a friend of Liberty, to promote the work of new artists, architects and designers. The books are mostly bound to match and run to 111 volumes. They are estimated at £600-1000.
The collection also features an 1854 school presentation copy of The Works of Eminent Masters in Painting, Sculpture, Architecture and Modern Art. It is inscribed to the 13-year-old Liberty with: “To Arthur Liberty as a prize for voluntary application and general good behaviour…1856.”
