A watercolour over pencil by John Robert Cozens that is offered by David Tunick at Master Drawings New York, priced at a six-figure sum.
It is inscribed Cypress in the Garden of the Franciscans near eight hundred years old.
The sketch, documenting a marvel of the grand tour in Salerno, was made in 1782, shortly after the departure for Marseilles of Cozen’s patron, William Beckford. It will be priced in the modest six-figure range.
