The ledger for Kelsick Wood of KW & Sons, shipbuilders of Maryport on the Solway Firth, was purchased by the town’s maritime museum for £4000 at a June 14-15 sale held by Mitchells (20% buyer’s premium) of nearby Cockermouth.
Dating from 1837-38, the ledger (in half calf and marbled boards) also contains manuscript accounts of timber imports, town rates, ships lost or taken, etc.
