A 1969 Omega Speedmaster is among the highlights on offer at Watches of Knightsbridge in London on September 8.
The piece is distinguished both by its date – 1969 being the year that NASA landed on the moon, with the astronauts all equipped with these models – and the tropical dial colour, which has turned from black to brown.
Referred to by collectors as a ‘chocolate’ dial, watches with this ageing can command double the price of a standard example. Estimate £7000-9000.
This 18ct yellow gold Fabergé watch above is estimated at £16,000-22,000 in the Fellows sale on July 31.
The watch was designed in an edition of 25 for the ‘St Petersburg Collection’ by Theo Fabergé (1922-2007), the last grandson of Russian Imperial jeweller Carl Fabergé and the first to create wristwatches in the family. Launched in 1999, the collection uses skeletonised Swiss movements and an egg-shape to each dial.
