This 17th century English oak gilded silver table cabinet, above, decorated with Dutch figures and landscapes, is an early instance of the European imitation of ‘exotic’ imported goods.
From a private collection, the 22in x 2ft 5in (57 x 75cm) piece dates to c.1620 and is similar to several English cabinets residing in museum collections, including one in the Victoria and Albert Museum.
It is priced at £78,000 from Wick Antiques in Lymington, Hampshire.
