1. This 6 x 9½in (16 x 24cm) oil on panel by George Goodwin Kilburne (1839-1924) took a mid-estimate £550 on June 13 at Cheffins, Cambridge. A departure from the traditional interior genre scenes associated with his output, the 1890 oil came from a private collection in Northamptonshire.

Hampstead-born painter Charles Collins (1851-1921) became well-known for these genre landscape scenes, often populated with cattle and figures. This signed 11 x 17in (28 x 43cm) oil on canvas of Bude in Cornwall sold for twice its top guide at Hartleys in West Yorkshire on June 12.

Of American interest in Mellors & Kirk’s June 13 sale in Nottingham was this 2ft 1in x 19in (64 x 49cm) oil by prolific portraitist George Peter Alexander Healy (1813-94). It was painted in 1871 and depicts Helen Stanley Haseltine, the second wife of fellow American painter William Stanley Haseltine.
