This tea and coffee set was among a number of Chinese silver items relegated to an attic in Dorset some 40 years ago and now consigned for sale at Charterhouse in Sherborne on April 19-20.

The set, made by the Chinese silversmith Luen Wo in Shanghai, was given as a wedding present in 1915 to the vendor’s grandparents, a Mr and Mrs H Mousley.

Mr Mousley worked for the Shanghai Mutual Telephone Company but was rumoured by the family to have been a spy. The lot includes a formal photograph of Mr Mousley with his staff taken outside the British Consulate in Shanghai and a Chinese hardwood tray with a wedding presentation inscription and dated 1915.

Estimate £1500-2500.

A watercolour design created by Charles Voysey (1875-1941) for his distinctive River Rug will be offered at Lawrences Auctioneers of Crewkerne on April 12.

Depicting an aerial view of a rural riverside landscape, the rug was produced at Wilton in 1903 and is housed in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum in South Kensington.

The 20 x 10in (52 x 25cm) drawing was given to Voysey’s friend and colleague George Nelson Haden of Haden & Sons and has passed by descent. It is estimated at £3000-5000.

A Distinguished Service Cross group of five medals with related papers and effects will be offered at Potbury Auctions in Sidmouth on March 27. Sub-Lieutenant Dennis Van der Meulen Moore was mentioned in 1943 for action against enemy submarines while serving on the V-class destroyer, HMS Vimy.

The medals are estimated at £2800-3200, and will be sold with corresponding miniatures, a sketchbook that illustrates an attack on a U-boat, and papers and photographs including four showing German POWs.
