This Irish pitch pine saddle horse above is coming up for auction in Tennants’ Country House Sale on September 21-22 in Leyburn, North Yorkshire.
Dating from the late 19th century, it was made for cleaning, storing and repairing tack by the ironworking firm of Musgrave & Co in Belfast.
Founded in 1843, the family business grew from its beginnings as hardware merchant to manufacturer of its own heating stoves and patented stable and cow-house fittings. From 1890-1914 the trade in stable fittings flourished and the firm was commissioned to fit out stables for the king of Spain and the cattle barons of South America.

Itchen Stoke auction house Andrew Smith & Son believes this picture above to be a lost work by Robert Alexander Hillingford (1828-1904) exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1901.
The 22 x 18in (56 x 46cm) oil on canvas, Dawn of Peace, is thought to depict Lord Kitchener riding among Boer civilians holding aloft the proclamation of peace.
The grubby and slightly damaged picture was discovered by the vendor in an attic and is signed and titled to the verso.
It will go under the hammer in a two-day sale on September 18-19, estimated at £400-600.

Stanley Cursiter (1887-1976) spent almost three decades at the head of the art world in Scotland, acting as keeper and then director of the National Galleries of Scotland.
In time, however, he became better known for his art, which played a key role in introducing Post-Impressionism and Futurism to Scotland.
Two works of Orkney by Cursiter will go under the hammer at Bristol Auction Rooms on September 13 in Ashton. The pair were given by Cursiter to the vendor’s father, a doctor on the islands after the Second World War, in thanks or as payment for services rendered.
This 9½in (24cm) square watercolour from 1914 of Kirkwall Harbour is guided at £600-800.

This Martin Brothers creation from 1890 is guided at £1000-1500 in the Bishop & Miller auction in Stowmarket, Suffolk, on September 22.
The 5in (12.5cm) wide stoneware Aquatic bowl is incised with a shoal of fish, including a ray, octopus, eels and fish with pointed teeth, swimming among weeds against a pale brown ground.
