It is a typical quiet scene for an artist of anything from still-lifes to landscapes. The show is held in celebration of his 90th birthday also marks the publication of a new book on his life and work by Peter Wakelin.

Burton was born in Treherbert in 1929 and grew up in the Rhondda Fawr between the wars. While studying at Cardiff College of Art in the late 1940s he became part of the Rhondda Group, which focused on their everyday surroundings. He later became head of painting at Liverpool College of Art.

Charles Burton: Painting Still, published by Sansom, will be launched at the opening of the exhibition, which runs from August 15-29 at the Cardiff gallery.
