This rare wood, card, and composition diorama of a First World War trench above is titled to the original box The Trenches on the Table, An Impression of Actual Trenches Somewhere in France Designed by an Officer in the Rifle Brigade. Instructive, Unbreakable and Inexpensive. The maker is listed as WB & Sons of Finsbury Park, London.

It is estimated at £20-40 at Lacy Scott & Knight of Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, on August 17.

Modern and Contemporary artists from Alison Watt and Frank Stella to Kenny Hunter and Eduardo Paolozzi will be included from the property of the late John Calcutt (1951-2018) at Lyon & Turnbull.

Calcutt was a teacher, writer and critic who started his career in the arts reading history of art at Edinburgh University from 1969 and then the Courtauld Institute of Art. He was leader of The Glasgow School of Art’s masters programme from 2007-16.

Among the lots to be offered in the Contemporary & Post-War Art auction in Edinburgh on August 15 is a signed screen print, Narcissus, by Alison Watt (b.1965), which is inscribed For John. The 2ft 1in x 20in (63 x 51cm) work is estimated at £300-500.

Vintage movie posters will be the order of the day on August 23 at Surrey saleroom Ewbank’s where 250 lots will be offered.

Among them is a 2ft 6in x 3ft 4in (76cm x 1.02m) British Quad film poster for the 1962 classic sci-fi horror The Day of the Triffids, starring Howard Keel and Nicole Maurey. It carries hopes of £300-500.
