The Magistrates Market Antiques Centre is now fully functional and a grand opening ceremony took place on July 27 (where this picture below was taken).

York Minster Antiques has opened The Silver Rooms in the Adams-designed room on the top floor. Here are also Deja Vu, Class Antiques, Appletree Vintage, Moonbow Vintage, DeLacey Antiques, Paul Johnson Antiques and Helen Bowman and Ben Wray (formerly Bowman Antique Fairs).

York Minister Antiques’ director Christine Braganza said: “There are now over 50 dealers at the centre and more have signed up for cabinets, rooms or areas. There are also small rooms dedicated to design, sewing, crafts and we ourselves have a silversmithing workshop.”

She added: “An exhibitions room is still being renovated but we are hoping to put on a show of the working drawings of silversmith AE Jones [1878-1954] with some of his items also on display. We are also looking at inviting some of the regional antiques and arts organisations to help with specific exhibitions – but all is in planning.”

The centre’s owner, Philip Weatherell, whose mother Kay owns an antiques centre in Harrogate, said at the formal opening: “We are already attracting shoppers to the centre from across the UK as well as Yorkshire and I am delighted to be able to open the centre fully to the public.”
