1. Danish painter Emanuel Petersen (1894-1948) spent six years travelling Greenland between 1921-35, producing over 2000 landscapes. This scene on an 18½in x 2ft 1in (47 x 64cm) oil on canvas bettered hopes at Colchester saleroom Reeman Dansie on November 19.

2. The 19th century French painter Charles Schreiber (1847-1902) drew much of his artistic inspiration from the religious and ecclesiastical world. This 8 x 10in (21 x 26cm) oil on board, A Close Game, was offered with a sale receipt from 1923 at Anthemion Auctions in Cardiff on November 20.

3. Anne Redpath’s (1895-1965) domestic stilllifes are her best-known subjects. But she also painted rural landscapes and cityscapes, such as this 15 x 20in (37 x 50cm) watercolour of a street corner in Edinburgh, offered at Bedale saleroom Elstob & Elstob on November 24.
