The auction house hopes to secure an office in Edinburgh for Addison, who joined the firm this week as head of Scotland.

Market knowledge

William Rouse, managing director of Chiswick, highlighted Addison’s “knowledge of the Scottish market and as a general valuer in his own right” He added: “Having someone on the ground in Scotland will enable us to extend our current service to all clients north of the border.”

Addison was previously senior auctioneer and head of furniture at Bonhams Scotland and specialises in furniture and design.

He said: “My role will involve helping with Chiswick’s modern design sales in London and developing the Chiswick business outside London. Chiswick has expanded a lot and offers a wide range of services.

Now we are getting this message out to private clients. Chiswick has a strong name in the trade but we need to reach out to more buyers and sellers around the country.”

One focus for Scotland is to gain consignments for Chiswick’s luxury sales, such as handbags and watches.

The west London auction house has expanded rapidly recently, creating new specialist departments and growing its headcount to more 80. It hired a number of ex- Christie’s South Kensington and Bonhams staff last year and reconfigured weekly general sales into a series of higherquality monthly Design & Interiors auctions alongside new specialists sales.
