She said: “With both rooms I can now offer 120 stands. This was all greeted with great enthusiasm by stallholders, especially those who have been waiting for a stand.’’

Talking about what are good sellers at her events, Alexander added: “I always like to keep a good mixture of antiques, monitoring how many of each specialism is with us at each fair. It has been interesting to see the changes, particularly an increase in art pottery and glass including post-war modernism.”

Demand trends

This is echoed by ‘newbie’ exhibitor Steve Bishop of the online Meridian Gallery, who said of demand at these fairs: “There has been interest in Arts & Crafts, Art Deco and post-war modern design items.

“Having spoken to other exhibitors, there have been strong sales of Oriental and Scandinavian ceramics, as well as vintage designer costume jewellery.”

The next Dorking Halls fair is on Sunday, January 20.
