Johan Peter Molin’s (1814-73) Knife Wrestlers, or Baltesspannarna, was first exhibited in Paris in 1859, inspired by the 19th century revival of interest in Norse mythology.
This mid-19th century biscuit porcelain group, mounted on a classical plinth base, was made by Gustafsberg of Stockholm.
The 2ft 7in x 17in (80 x 43cm) work is estimated at £3000-5000 in a sale of furniture, works of art and clocks at Woolley & Wallis of Salisbury on January 9. It forms part of the second tranche of antiques from the collection of academic lawyer and QC Jeremy Lever.

This ‘near fine’ copy of the children’s classic was published by MacMillan & Co in 1894 with illustrations by John Lockwood Kipling, WH Drake and Paul Frenzeny. It is priced at £2750.
