1. North Yorkshire saleroom Tennants continued its dispersal of the estate of Grosvenor School artist Edith Lawrence (1890-1973) with a sell-out group of 15 watercolours and linocuts on June 22. Among the affordable entries was Houses on a Hillside, a 12 x 10in (30 x 25cm) linocut that sold within a £300-500 guide.
2. This 11 x 23in (29 x 60cm) oil on canvas by the Belgian artist Alphonse Neumans (1853-93) depicts the fire that ravaged Scarborough Spa in 1876. Believed to have been painted at the scene (according to a label on the verso), it came from the collection of the late Denis Chapman, an auctioneer and estate agent in Scarborough, and sold for nearly double the top guide at North Yorkshire saleroom Elstob & Elstob on June 23.
3. Frederick William Scarbrough (1860- 1939) was primarily a watercolourist who depicted sea scenes along the east coast of Britain. However, his paintings of busy shipping in the pool of London are his most sought-after with this signed 7½ x 15in (19 x 39cm) watercolour, Off Wapping London, selling for a multi-estimate sum at Suffolk saleroom Bishop & Miller on June 22.
