1 How did you get your start?
I have always been passionate about the arts, but the turning point was when I met my wife, Giulia, during college. We were both studying art history with different approaches. I have always been interested in business and entrepreneurship, whereas she has always had a talent for research and writing. I knew that we were meant to build something special together both as a couple and as business partners.
2 What is your favourite sort of object to work with?
The feeling of discovering a new treasure, sometimes an unheard-of painting, is incredible. We work closely with experts, curators, writers and artists’ families for years to unveil amazing works of art and support our artists internationally. Finding these exclusive artworks, never seen on the market, is one of our biggest challenges at the moment.
3 What is one highlight you have on offer this year?
One of our highlights is a Fauvist painting by Emile Othon Friesz (1879-1949), a view of La Ciotat painted in 1907 while he was travelling with George Braque in the south of France. It is among the most important paintings by the artist we know of today and we are thrilled to present it on our first stand at Biennale Paris in September (13-17).
4 Who do you admire in the world of art and antiques?
Jacques Jaujard (1895-1967) played an inspiring role during the Second World War. As director of the Louvre, he organised the evacuation of 4000 works of art, keeping them safe from art looting and destruction. In today’s context, I believe we must remember this man.
5 Real ale or espresso martini?
Espresso Martini but I am more a dry vodka person.
