The George Medal is awarded to civilians who show extraordinary courage in the face of enemy action. The example above was presented in 1941 to Percival Tyrrell Hague, a corporal in the Home Guard, for the remarkable gallantry he showed during an air raid over Nottingham Corporation Gas Works.
As part of his heroics, Hague climbed a 90ft gasholder to remove three unexploded incendiaries lodged there.
The framed medal, along with Hague’s service record, newspaper articles, letters of congratulations and related ephemera, will be offered in a Militaria & Ethnographica sale on June 5 at North Yorkshire saleroom Tennants, where it is offered with a £2500-3500 guide.
Newbury saleroom Special Auction Services will offer an original EH Shepard (1879-1976) drawing showing himself as a child in its Antiques and Fine Art sale on June 4.
It depicts the book illustrator as a young boy being taken for a walk in Ramsgate with his landlady’s mother. The 7 x 5½in (18 x 14cm) pen and ink on paper illustration is found in Shepard’s childhood memoir Drawn from Memory, a copy of which is also in the lot together with a letter from the artist.

Amazing Fantasy issue #15 heralded the first appearance of superhero Spider-Man in 1962 and is currently one of the most highly valued US comic books.
The copy pictured above has been signed by the late comic book legend Stan Lee, who co-created Spider-Man, and comes with a photo of Lee with the comic’s owner taken after it was signed in London in 2015.
It carries a ‘Good Plus’ grade and is estimated at £4000-5000 in the current timed auction concluding on June 2 at Comic Book Auctions.

A linen-backed 2ft 6in x 3ft 4in (76 x 1.01m) British Quad poster designed by Robert Brownjohn (1925-70) for the 1964 Bond film Goldfinger, starring Sean Connery, is estimated at £2000-4000.
