WHAT’S NEW FOR 2019?

The inaugural Sculpture Series, which features an assortment of modern and contemporary works curated by Jo Baring, director of the Ingram Collection.

Selected from Masterpiece’s exhibitors, they will be positioned throughout the fair. Gary Hume, one of the contributing sculptors, will appear in conversation with Baring on July 1.

For the third year, the fair presents new work by a contemporary artist in Masterpiece Presents. This year, it is a sculptural installation by Phyllida Barlow, in conjunction with Hauser & Wirth. The untitled pieces reference the super-sized ‘pom-poms’ she developed in the 1990s. It follows her solo exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts (until June 23).

The Chelsea event is no longer the sole date in the Masterpiece calendar. Later this year the format will be trialed in Hong Kong with a ‘pavilion’ within the Fine Art Asia Fair (October 4-7). As part of the new partnership, Fine Art Asia will have a group exhibition on a shared stand in the London fair.
