Like many in the Great Bardfield group, prices for Robinson’s art has increased over the last decade or so. Indeed, a 1961 linocut of a cat sat on a chair with identical markings took a premium-inclusive £264 at Christie’s South Kensington in 2006.
Robinson moved to Great Bardfield – the village in north-west Essex that played host to a thriving community of artists during the early and mid-20th century – after the breakdown of her marriage to the artist Bernard Cheese.
Influenced by her tutor Edward Bawden, a leading light of the Great Bardfield school, she worked in card-cut illustration and produced advertising posters for the Post Office, BBC and London Transport, before becoming a full-time lecturer in illustration at the Royal College of Art.
