1. This 6 x 7in (15 x 18cm) lakeside scene in India was one of four watercolours by Charles D’Oyly (1781-1845) that sold at Olympia Auctions on April 17 in London. D’Oyly’s pictures of the Mughal Ruins of Dakha were published in a folio of engravings by Edwin Landseer in 1814 and his views of Calcutta by Dickinson & Co in 1848.
2. Auguste Edouart (1789-1861) was a silhouettist who received commissions from society figures and worked for many years in Dublin and Cork before later travelling to North America. Three lots attributed to him were offered at Adam’s in Dublin on April 17, including this 10 x 12in (24 x 31cm) scene that tipped over top estimate.
3. During her teenage years the Scottish artist Elizabeth Blackadder (b.1931) meticulously collected local flowers, compiling the specimens and pressing and labelling them with their full Latin names. This fascination would surface much later in her paintings of plants and flowers. This signed 12 x 7in (30 x 19cm) watercolour of an iris, dated 1987, sold at Lyon & Turnbull on April 17.
