Previously at Phillips and Bonhams Chester, Spicer joined Dee Atkinson & Harrison three years ago.
He said: “I wanted to improve our sales. Being part of an estate agent was actually a hindrance. It restricted who offered us work because other estate agents in the area knew we were associated with a firm. Now we are independent and have no ties with any estate agent.”
The company is hiring and looking for an auctioneer valuer to join its team of six.
It will remain in the same building in Driffield, East Yorkshire, but Spicer said it may look at expanding in the future. He plans to focus on growing its classic cars and motorcycles sales. Its next antiques and fine art sale is scheduled for May 10 and its next classic car and motorcycle sale is July 6.
