Measuring 12in (30.5cm) wide overall, the box, with three sliding levers to one side, played four airs on a movement stamped 4369 and Oberon and Matalini.
Key to its appeal was its early form: it shared many characteristics with pioneering and rare boxes from the third decades of the 19th century.
In good working condition, and offered with its original winding key, it sold at £1550 against a £60-80 estimate.
