A 14-clasp (showing how many battles he served in) Military General Service medal from that period awarded to Pte James Morris, 52nd Foot, offered by Dix Noonan Webb (20% buyer’s premium) on September 25 was accompanied by a Ciudad Rodrigo ‘Forlorn Hope’ Medal.

This “extremely rare” combination sold for £24,000 against an estimate of £10,000-15,000. There was interest on both the internet and on the phones and the pair was bought by a private collector online.

Morris was slightly wounded in the left arm at Almeida, 1810, slightly in the left thigh at Badajoz, 1811, and severely again in the left thigh at Ciudad Rodrigo, 1812.

He was a volunteer at the storming of Ciudad Rodrigo, Badajoz and St Sebastian, and was afterwards present at the Battle of Waterloo.
