Sold on thesaleroom.com for a record £6000 in Oxford as part of a Mallams (22.5% buyer’s premium) sale of September 25-26 was a 1568 first of his Archaimonia, sive de Priscis Anglorum Legibus…

This copy of his work on Anglo-Saxon laws was in a later binding, but a number of corrections found on its pages, it was suggested, may be in the author’s hand.

It came complete with a folding map of the kingdoms of Anglo-Saxon England that is attributed to Lawrence Nowell, with whom Lambarde had studied law.

A second part of the Eric Stanley library will be sold by Mallams on January 30.
