1939 first of TS Eliot’s 'Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats' sold for £4300 at Dominic Winter.
A few leaves had been roughly opened and the jacket showed some toning and chipping, but only two or three inscribed copies have made more.
One that Eliot inscribed as “Ole Possum (Himself)” for his publisher – “To Enid and Geoffrey Faber and all minor Fabers” – sold for £10,000 at Sotheby’s in 2010.
The Dominic Winter sale took place on June 19-20.
