Stow Art Week runs from September 28-October 6, involving various local galleries offering works by historic and contemporary artists.
Christopher Clarke Antiques, a specialist in furniture and travel items, offers a collection of paintings, covering subjects such as Hindu gods and exotic flora and fauna of the subcontinent.
It comes from an old family that collected them in India before bringing them home to England. Prices range from £100 for a mounted single picture to £1500 for a framed set.
Collaborative effort
The Clarke exhibits appear alongside various Stow-on-the-Wold galleries offering traditional and Contemporary art. The week is a result of a collaborative effort on the part of the participating dealers.

Simon Shore, who exhibits a selection of Napoleonic as well as Modern British art in his 1793 Gallery, says: “The initial concept of creating Stow Art Week is to create an atmosphere which inspires, educates, encourages and supports Stow as a recognised centre for the arts.”
Nash highlights
Another of the highlights is a loan exhibition at Sam Wilson of eight watercolours by artist and botanical illustrator John Nash (1893-1977) and related memorabilia.
It was made possible by Martin Elliott, grandson of the plantsman Clarence Elliot (Nash’s friend). The Artist and the Plantsman includes a talk on September 28. Clarence had a nursery called Six Hills Nursery and every year he published a catalogue of plants available.

Red Rag Gallery and Peter Martin are among the other galleries staging shows during the festival.
All galleries are open until 8pm on October 3 with drinks and canapes and some of the exhibited artists present.
