Eddy Merckx Tour de France yellow jersey sold for £7000 at Rogers Jones.
Merckx wore this Le Coq Sportif cotton jersey in the 61st edition of the Tour in 1974 when he equalled Frenchman Jacques Anquetil’s five Tour victories.
The jersey had been owned since 1974 by a Belgian lady whose father was given it by his friend Jean Crahay, the driver of the car used by a Belgian sports newspaper. The lot, sold via thesaleroom.com, was offered with autographs and a winner’s sash.
