1. This 14 x 10in (35.5 x 25.5cm) watercolour of Grudon mid-race by the equine painter John Beer (1883-1915) was offered at £300-500 together with another at Woolley & Wallis on March 4.

2. This 21in x 2ft 6in (52 x 75cm) oil on canvas titled Landing the catch, Katwijk topped a group of privately owned works by the West Country Impressionist painter Frederick Stuart Richardson (1855-1934) at Chilcotts on March 7 in Honiton, Devon. Richardson’s Dutch coastal views were executed during extensive travels in Europe and are among his most commercial on the secondary market.

3. Mallams’ Modern Living Sale in Cheltenham on March 5 included this signed acrylic painting titled Fairground Flight by the post-war Abstract artist William Gear (1915-97). The signed 20in x 2ft 4in (51 x 72cm) work, dated 1979, was knocked down to a private collector against a £300-500 guide.
