The auction, on November 27, was held by Ivoire Troyes (24% buyer’s premium inc VAT) in the French city.

The painting, which was previewed in ATG No 2469, is dated to c.1480, the period when the artist was working in Venice, and carried an estimate of €50,000-70,000.

It took €115,000 (£104,545), almost double the guide, with the hammer falling to the French bidder. The price sets a new auction high for the artist.
