Model number 5423/1 was a 12in (31cm) long tethered plane, fixed to a cord, which flew in circles.

This example has been in the same family since it was bought in 1914 and comes complete with its original box and page of instructions.

It is coming up in a sale on February 28-29 at Hohenstaufen in Göppingen, which is, incidentally, the home of the Märklin company.

The starting price is €12,000.
