This typical Renaissance revival enamel pendant above by Carlo Giuliano, c.1880, opens to reveal a portrait miniature watercolour of Sir William Lawrence (1783-1867), Serjeant-Surgeon to Queen Victoria. She rewarded him with a baronetcy shortly before his death.

It comes by descent from his family with an estimate of £2500-3500 at Chiswick Auctions on March 3.

Two Stories is the first work produced by the Hogarth Press, the publishing house established by Virginia and Leonard Woolf in 1917. The title page states Publication No.1 in the top-left corner.

Produced in a run of just 150 copies (the 32 pages were sewn together and bound with paper covers by hand), it contains the short stories Three Jews by Leonard and The Mark on the Wall by Virginia. Dora Carrington designed the four woodcut illustrations.

This copy above, which belonged to the poet Camilla Doyle, comes for sale at the Lyon & Turnbull rare books and manuscripts sale in Edinburgh on February 19 with an estimate of £2500-3500.

This 19 x 13in (48 x 38cm) pastel on paper above is one of three works by Irish artist William Conor (1881-1968) included in the February 20-21 sale at Adam Partridge in Macclesfield titled Antiques & Fine Art with Northern & Contemporary Art, Stamps & Ephemera.

The trio of figural works had been bought by the vendor’s parents at a gallery in Belfast. There’s More Than One Heaven has an estimate of £2500-3500.


The auction at TimeLine in London on February 25 includes a 16th century gold finger ring set with a large table-cut emerald. The decoration features hatched and scrolled detailing to the shoulders, a sunburst to the underside and ‘claws’ to secure the stone.

Part of a private European collection formed in the 1960s-70s, it was acquired by the UK vendor from a London gallery in the late 1980s.

The estimate is £6000-8000.
