Offered for £38,000, it is part of Osborne Samuel’s annual Modern British show, which usually coincides with Masterpiece. Though the gallery considered holding it back, it ultimately launched it as part of London Art Week and will carry it through the summer.

“My instinct is that people will book their holidays in August but, as we are only just opening, the thinking was that if people can come in July and August at least they will have something to come and look at,” says the gallery’s Peter Osborne.
