1. This 9½ x 13in (24 x 33cm) Victorian watercolour of the medieval ruins of Red Castle at Hawkstone in Shropshire by Rev John Louis Petit (1801-68) appeared at Burstow & Hewett on February 19 in Battle estimated at £50-100.

2. Trevor Grimshaw (1947-2001) developed a unique style to produce atmospheric images of the northern English industrial landscape. This characteristic 5 x 5½in (13 x 14cm) monochrome drawing of a steam train, authenticated by the artist’s daughter, tipped over top estimate at Peter Wilson in Nantwich on February 20.

3. This signed oil by the Glaswegian artist Joseph Morris Henderson (1864-1936) featured in Lyon & Turnbull’s Paintings & Works on Paper sale in Edinburgh on February 18. The 17in x 2ft 5in (44 x 75cm) oil on canvas had passed by descent from the artist.
