Source of most of the 340 lots at the February 28 sale was the home of an elderly client who has moved into a care home.
Sadly, her own place had become dilapidated long before auctioneer Edward Crichton and his team cleared it. Many of the dolls and effects had been affected by damp.
However, some of the dolls’ houses and dolls’ furniture were of obvious high quality and carried private hopes well above here-to-sell estimates.
An early Victorian painted pine two-storey town house opened to reveal four rooms, each with a fireplace. Standing 2ft 9in (84cm) tall and on a later stand, it was pitched at £300-500 and went to a East Anglian bidder at £7800.
A quantity of well-made Regency-style miniature furniture and furnishings, estimated at £200-300 attracted the same buyer.
Comprising a lacquered chaise-longue, faux rosewood cabinet bookcase, pedestal games table, roll-top piano, cheval mirror, lacquered chairs, a four-poster bed, wash-stand, dresser base and dining table, many of the pieces had been affected by damp, but the lot sold at £6800.
