For those who are feeling a bit of both emotions, two major dealerships are holding selling campaigns with some of the proceeds going to charity.

Richard Green

Mayfair art dealership Richard Green Gallery has launched a charity exhibition: Art for Heroes.

The business is backing the Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals’ charity Supporting the Frontline, an effort launched by two local private members’ clubs, 5 Hertford Street and Oswald’s. The effort provides food boxes for hospital staff and their families during the coronavirus alert.

To enhance the initiative, the gallery is offering 25 modern and historic paintings at discounted rates – mostly at or below cost price – with 15% of the purchase price going to Supplying the Frontline. It is also absorbing the 4% ARR charge.

Ronin Gallery

Meanwhile, over in New York City, which is at the heart of the US pandemic, the owners of the Ronin Gallery have launched another scheme.

Utamaro’s woodblock print 'Courtesan Hisui from Ogiya', c.1798, woodblock print, is priced $25,000 by Ronin Gallery.

The Libertson family, which runs the business, has pledged a matching gift of 25% of all sales until the end of May to raise a minimum of $25,000 to support Mount Sinai Health System’s research and clinical care for patients with Covid-19. At the time of writing the gallery had raised more than $15,000.

“We’re not thriving but we’re certainly surviving and since we are, we wanted to look at what we can do,” David Libertson told ATG. “Art is not an essential service, but it has the power to brighten everybody’s lives in times of darkness.”

The Ronin Gallery specialises in Japanese woodblock prints of the 17th-21st centuries.
