The collection of around 50 fans were due to be offered at the (now cancelled) International Antiques Fair in Hong Kong but instead wi'l be offered via a timed online sale running on thesaleroom.com from May 28-June 14.
The fans are currently stored in Hong Kong and have the relevant CITES and import/export licence paperwork.
Gibson said he was inspired by fellow BADA Council member, dealer Archie Parker who held a timed online picture auction recently. He said: “This will be a two-part curated sale, which I have put together with my colleague Robert Brandt.”
The collection of mixed media, paper, mother of pearl, tortoise shell and ivory fans will be accompanied by a BADA certificate of authenticity and will be shipped by art handling agent, Sun Ming, from Hong Kong.
Among the highlights is a rare c.1780 ivory brise fan, which depicts an 18-gun Royal Navy sloop.
It is estimated at HK$20,000-30,000.
